What Culture & Crumb is

Culture & Crumb is an independent buyer-guide site for home fermentation and artisan bread equipment. We cover fermentation crocks, kombucha brewing kits, sourdough bread tools, dehydrators, preserving gear, and specialty fermentation kits.

We earn revenue through the Amazon Associates Program — when you click a product link and buy on Amazon, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you. Full details are in our Affiliate Disclosure.

How we research products

We want to be straightforward about what our guides are and aren't:

What we do

• Research manufacturer specifications — capacity, materials, dimensions, included accessories
• Read retailer product descriptions — feature lists, intended use cases, compatibility
• Survey community discussion — forums, Q&A sections, and hobbyist communities for real-world experience and common pain points
• Compare products within categories — we identify genuine trade-offs and include honest downsides in every write-up
• Verify ASINs — we check that every Amazon product link resolves to the correct item. Any we can't verify are flagged.

What we don't do

• Fabricate ratings or review counts — where we show a rating, it's marked "To be verified" until confirmed via Amazon's Product Advertising API
• Claim hands-on testing — unless explicitly stated otherwise, our research is desk-based. We don't write "we tested" if we didn't.
• Display prices — Amazon prices change constantly. Stale prices mislead readers and violate Amazon's Operating Agreement. Every product links to Amazon where you can see the live price.
• Use Amazon product images — per Amazon's terms, product images are served only through their PA API or SiteStripe. Until we have API access, product image slots use category-level decorative imagery from licensed sources (Unsplash/Pexels), not images of specific products.

Our editorial independence

We do not accept payment from brands for coverage. Commission income does not influence product selection, ranking, or verdicts. If a product has real drawbacks, we say so — recommending a bad product harms our readers and ultimately our reputation.
